Giorgi Margiani Memorial Mock Trial on Human Trafficking
The Ministry of Justice of Georgia, together with the Training Center of Justice of Georgia, is implementing the “Giorgi Margiani Memorial Mock Trial on Human Trafficking” project.
The project aims to raise awareness among students from Tbilisi and the regions of Georgia about human trafficking-related crimes, as well as to develop and enhance their advocacy skills in court proceedings, promote networking among students, and establish a professional contact network.
Competition Timeline
- September 21 – October 22, 2026 – Registration of teams wishing to participate in the project;
- October 23, 2026 – Distribution of the case materials and preparatory materials to registered teams;
- October 23–30, 2026 – Period for registered teams to submit requests for clarification regarding the case;
- October 23 – November 20, 2026 – Period for preparing the written positions of the defense and prosecution;
- November 2–6, 2026 – Training sessions for registered teams;
- November 20, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. – Deadline for teams to submit their written defense and prosecution positions;
- November 26, 2026 – Announcement of the teams advancing to the oral round;
- November 26 – December 21, 2026 – Preparation period for teams participating in the oral round;
- December 22–24, 2026 – Oral rounds of the mock trial at the Kvareli Training Center of Justice.
Eligibility and Participation Criteria
The mock trial is open to teams composed of undergraduate and master’s students from any faculty of an authorized public or private higher education institution in Georgia. One or more teams may register from the same university.
A team member must have valid student status at the time of the competition and must be enrolled at the undergraduate or master’s level. In addition, a team member must not have previously participated in the oral round of the project.
Each team must consist of at least 2 and no more than 4 students.
Competition Format
The mock trial consists of two stages: the written round and the oral round.
Each registered team shall prepare and submit both defense and prosecution positions in the written round and present both positions during the oral round.
The 8 best-performing teams in the written round will advance to the oral round.
Language of the Competition
The mock trial will be conducted in Georgian. All written documents, including any correspondence, as well as all oral submissions, shall be in Georgian.
This requirement does not restrict teams from consulting any foreign-language literature necessary for the competition and using such sources to support their arguments.
Benefits for Project Participants
- Members of the teams advancing to the final round will receive prizes;
- All participants in the oral round will receive a certificate confirming their participation in the project.
